Garbage disposal is one of the best things that you might have in your kitchen. What garbage disposal is, it’s basically a kind of a pipe connected to a motor that takes care of all the garbage that you throw away while cleaning your dishes. One of the things that we all hate is when the sink gets clogged by the pieces of food while we are washing dishes. You don’t have to worry about that when you have a garbage disposal.
Just like the car, the motor size in a garbage disposal is measured in horsepower. Usually a normal house has garbage disposal at ½ HP but there are even stronger motor sizes. If you are looking to completely shred your disposal then you can take a ¾ HP. The motor is what does all the work in garbage disposal and it is practically the brain and muscle of the device itself. In case the motor breaks down you can get a new one without throwing away the rest of your garbage disposal.
Feed Type Garbage Disposal
There are two types of feed disposals and they are the normal one and the batch feed type of disposal. Garbage disposals have their good sides and their cons. The good side is, no more clogger sinks, the bad side is occasional accidents that might hurt someone if you are not careful. In the case of the normal garbage disposal, you turn it on with a switch that is in the wall and then you are ready to go wash your dishes in peace. In the case of batch disposal, you have to fish in with your hand to fit a stopped in the mouth of the disposal. The second type is safer but it is also more expensive.
The griding chamber or as it is called differently, the room of the knives is the place of the device where the destruction of the disposal takes place. This is what the motor powers with its HP’s. This is the part of the device where the garbage goes and the pieces of food go and they get shredded. You have to clean the grinding chamber every now and then to make sure the knives are fresh and no type of rust is creating inside it.
This is the handiest system in the device itself. Suppose you throw something inside the garbage disposal and it gets stuck. Well, it can’t because this system does not allow it. Whenever something tries to get stuck this system of the device rotates the motor in reverse to get whatever is in there unstuck and then continue shredding it. Unless what you threw in there is a fork or a spoon then you are safe. Every garbage disposal must have the auto-reverse system since it is essential for its own maintenance.
